Mental Health First Aid is a national certification course that is designed to teach the layperson the skills to recognize the signs of a mental health crisis, identify community resources, and link individuals in need of treatment and support to the proper resources.
The course will consist of a 1.5-hour self-paced introduction course online, followed by a 7.5-hour live skills session with Mental Health First Aid instructors (length of live skills session accounts for several short breaks and one extended lunch break). You will learn a 5-step action plan and practice applying it throughout the skills section of the course.
We are offering this course for $28.95 per person, which covers the cost of your seat in the Learning Management System and the materials you can refer back to after the course. This course is valued at $170 per person, so this is a great deal!
If a department is funding your attendance, you can provide a KFS number for fund transfer or pay with credit card.
If we receive more people then we can train this time, we will keep you on a waiting list. Please remember, if you register to participate, you are committing to complete the self-paced modules AND attend the FULL 7 hours of live skills practice. Participants will receive a certificate marking their certification in Mental Health First Aid. This certification is active for 3 years and can be a great addition to your resume.
Feel free to email Olivia Mays (omays@umd.edu) with any of your questions or concerns.
Please note we are asking some questions (i.e. academic college) with the sole purpose of advocating for funding and/or ensuring we are reaching diverse audiences.
