Parenting practices matter in the long-term emotional and cognitive health of children, and a new report by Prof. Sandra Hofferth shows that poverty explains more differences in parenting practices than family structure.

SPH to Play Lead Role in New UMD Center for Sports Medicine, Health, and Human Performance

The School of Public Health's Department of Kinesiology will help shape the research and educational programs of a new center that will focus on health promotion, human performance and sports medicine. With a planned 23,000 square feet of clinical space, it could treat an estimated 60,000 people a year. The program will bring together experts from across the University of Maryland, College Park and Baltimore campuses.

Kinesiology Students Map Crime Along Area Running Trails


Kinesiology honors students and a GIS mentor created an online tool to assist runners who utilize area running trails, color coding sections of the trails based the incidence of violent crimes over a six month period.
