The College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS) seeks donations to support the Student Initiated Courses (STICs) program, which gives students the opportunity to design, develop, and teach 1-2 credit courses on a variety of topics under the guidance of a faculty advisor.
“They get to benefit from the experience, the passion and the interest of the STICs instructor. In my experience, the people teaching the STICs classes really have a great interest and a passion for their topic and they convey that to their students.”
— Michael Hicks, Director of Undergraduate Studies for Computer Science
The funds raised during this Giving Tuesday campaign will pay students who wish to teach a course in our college and will provide them with resources to purchase supplies and software for their courses.
Facilitating a course through this program is one of the most rewarding learning opportunities available to our students. Recent student-taught courses in our college have included 2D Game Engine Design, Ornithology, Mathematics & Classical Music, and Introduction to Ethical Hacking.
Together, we can bring the fearless ideas of current Terp students to life.
“It definitely benefits the teachers. People always say the best way to learn is to teach, and I definitely agree with that.”
— Maria McCulley, Student Facilitator for CMSC3890: The Coding Interview
