Improving Health in Veterans with PTSD: The Warrior Canine Connection


Family Science Professor Norm Espstein is leading a four-year study to investigate the effects of a Service Dog Training Program on the health and functioning of service members experiencing PTSD.

 

Developing Methods to Quickly Identify Influenza Threats


Professor Donald Milton received a $5 million grant from IARPA to develop non-invasive technologies to make it possible to identify and thwart a potential threat posed by someone working to engineer a flu virus for nefarious purposes. 

Could Climate Change Increase Your Risk of Foodborne Illness?


Research by Assoc. Prof. Amir Sapkota shows that extreme heat and rainfall increase your odds of getting a salmonella infection in Maryland and that coastal communities are being disproportionately impacted.

New MPH Programs in Health Equity, Health Policy & Physical Activity

Public health students can now choose from eight Master of Public Health concentrations, including two new programs launched by the Dept. of Health Services Administration this fall, in Health Policy Analysis and Evaluation and a first-of-its-kind program in Health Equity, as well as an MPH in Physical Activity, led by our top-ranked Dept. of Kinesiology.

Allison Lilly (MPH, ’12), UMD's sustainability and wellness coordinator, was recognized by Elevation DC as a food hero for her work in transforming the DC area’s food system. 


Support the School of Public Health on Giving Tuesday, 12/1/15
 

The SPH will participate in “Giving Tuesday” on December 1st, 2015, along with the rest of the University of Maryland. Last year, the worldwide Giving Tuesday campaign raised more than $45.7M. Nonprofits in Maryland launched #MDGivesMore as an effort to declare Md. the “most generous state” in the country.The University will have its own hashtag and social media communications for this year's Giving Tuesday, so stay tuned!
