Fall 2020 Sadat Book Chats
The Sadat Book Chat is a book conversation series hosted by the Sadat Chair in order to showcase publications by the department's faculty, and occasionally others, and to generate a broader conversation. Our first Sadat Book Chat of the semester featured Dov Levin who will discussed his book Meddling in the Ballot Box: The Causes and Effects of Partisan Electoral Interventions on Thursday, September 10th. Also, in September, we hosted Professor Dana Fisher from the Department of Sociology who discussed her book American Resistance: From the Women's March to the Blue Wave. On the eve of the vice-presidential debate in October, we hosted Tom LoBianco to discuss his book Piety & Power: Mike Pence and the Taking of the White House. Later in October, we hosted Professor Antoine Banks to discuss his article "Black Politics: How Anger Influences the Political Actions Blacks Pursue to Reduce Racial Inequality" (with Ismail K. White and Brian D. McKenzie), which won the Elections, Public Opinion, and Voting Behavior Award for Best Article in Political Behavior. In November, we will be hosting Associate Professor Eric Adler from the Department of Classics at UMD to discuss his new book The Battle of the Classics: How a Nineteenth-Century Debate Can Save the Humanities Today. This book chat will be taking place on Wednesday, November 18th at 4pm.
