Honor & Celebrate Veterans Day Service
Veterans Day Service
Friday, November 9th
12:00 - 1:30 PM
Memorial Chapel

On Friday, November 9, 2018 from noon to 1:00 pm, the University salutes the contributions of our veteran community through an exceptional program of music and spoken word. MannerMusik, Vintage Voices, and the Mighty Sound of Maryland provide a patriotic backdrop as remarks are offered by two Veterans with extensive ties to the UMD community.

After graduating from UMD in 1968, Michael G. Moore completed Infantry Officer Candidate School in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division General Staff, working on the Nuclear Release Authentication System. He was the recipient of the Army Commendation Medal and currently is serving as a Commissioner for the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs and Senator Van Hollen’s Uniformed Service Academy. Moore is currently adjutant and is a past commander of the Greenbelt American Legion.

Sara Feret worked with ballistic missile defense monitoring as a cryptological technician for the U.S. Navy. Currently a UMD senior majoring in kinesiology, she volunteers as executive vice president of the TerpVets student organization advisory board.

At the conclusion to the program, all attendees are invited to walk the meditative labyrinth in honor of a veteran. A festive buffet lunch willbe served in the Memorial Chapel Garden of Reflection and Remembrance.
