Full course description

PhD Career Navigator is an online tool to help doctoral students and postdocs get started with their career development and job search. It is not a course- but rather a repository of information tailored specifically for doctoral students. It was developed to meet the unique needs of busy doctoral students who often cite time constraints as a reason for not accessing career related events and information. There is not a credit-bearing career development course at UMD for current doctoral students.

PhD Career Navigator contains eight modules that provide basic information about foundational career topics- career self-management, campus resources, career exploration, academic job search, industry job search, resumes/CVs/cover letters, and networking. Each module is designed to take 15-20 minutes to complete and can be worked through in any order. The modules each contains basic information, links to other resources and a quick activity to apply the information in the module.
