Are you a currently enrolled student with the University of Maryland - College Park? Do you Need an on-campus job with good pay and flexible hours? Consider working for the University of Maryland, Department of Public Safety, Police Auxiliary Unit. The Police Auxiliary hires students at various times during the year for the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter semesters! Students are not required to work during the Summer or Winter breaks, but many hours are available. Schedule your work hours around classes, work side-by-side with sworn officers, and have first hand experience with police work. We encourage students of all majors to apply.
The Student Police Aide provides a wide variety of security and services to the entire campus. The tasks can vary from a general patrol of the campus to security for certain locations on campus. We also provide general security and traffic control during major sporting events such as football and basketball games, among many other events.
We offer students of the University of Maryland – College Park the opportunity to achieve excellent work experience while still being a full time student. Our shifts can vary from day to night and in length of hours, which allow a high level of flexibility in order to adequately plan your day between study, work, and social hours.
Students will also have the opportunity to build their resume and contacts for future career paths. Many former Student Police Aides have gone on to achieve successful high ranking positions. As an example, we currently have three former Student Police Aides who are Chiefs of Police at police departments around the country.
Our starting salary is $16.00 an hour and can go as high as $19.00 with promotions.
In addition to the hourly wage some shifts pay an extra $1.00 an hour, many weekend and night shifts pay an extra $2.00 an hour, and specific shifts may pay an extra $4.00 an hour.
You must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid US Driver's License, and be a registered student at the University of Maryland - College Park to apply

We accept applications year round, and hire as positions become available. Upon opening of a position, applicants will be contacted to complete the following hiring process:
- Oral interview
- Back ground process
- criminal history check
- references check, previous employment, etc.
- Appropriate paperwork to become an employee for the University.
Upon notification of application being received and scheduling of interview the hiring process can take up to several months to complete. If not selected for a current open position, applicants may reapply the following semester.
