When Sam Brin took an interest in drones during a recent visit to campus, the University of Maryland noticed. Soon an opportunity arose to advance drone technology through a generous gift. What better way to do that then through a contest that will result in prizes and inspire UMD students, faculty and staff? A contest that aims to advance applications in computer science and aerospace while promoting exemplary displays of unmanned aerial vehicles - how cool is that?

About
The Brin Family Prize will support prizes for excellence in drone-related activity. The contest is open to all UMD faculty, staff and students. Those who apply will be selected to participate based on the merits of the project they describe. Applicants will also be required to explain what the personal and professional impact of winning the prize would mean to them. Topics can represent any level of understanding on the undergraduate, graduate or faculty level and can include, but are not limited to:
- Research
- Student competitions/challenges
- Design and builds
The work can be in progress and at any stage, or it can be a proposal. Submitted projects will be evaluated and judged by a committee of experts in the fields of computer science and aerospace engineering.
Rules
Applications for the prize must be submitted online and include a description of the project and resumes of the individuals involved. Application resumes should include the primary individuals working on the project (advisors' resumes are not necessary). The deadline for applications is April 23, 2018 and contest finalists will be notified by April, 30, 2018. Those selected as finalists must be available on May 10, 2018 to present their projects to the committee.
