Dorothy Beckett Transitions to NIH Leadership Role

University of Maryland Chemistry and Biochemistry Professor Dorothy Beckett has been chosen to direct the National Institute of General Medical Sciences' Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences.

Beckett is a molecular biophysicist with extensive expertise in the field. She is a leader in the scientific community and a proponent of expanding opportunities for women and underrepresented groups in science.

Beckett's research focuses on the physical chemistry of protein function and its function in regulatory biology. Prior to joining UMD in 1999, Beckett was an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She has held a number of leadership positions, including serving as president of the Biophysical Society from 2014 to 2015.
