UMD Pre-Transfer Advising for MC
Interested in transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park? We can help you plan for transfer to a program offered at the College Park campus location!
UMD Program Managers are available for individual pre-transfer advising sessions via email, phone, or Zoom to help students with:
academic planning
course selection
estimating time-to-UMD graduation
major and career exploration
the transfer application process
Pre-Transfer Advising is open to all students who are interested in a program offered at the College Park campus location. It's never too early to meet with Katie, Leslie or Yenti to develop your plan!
Please note, most UMD courses are offered in-person and not online.

Prepare for a Pre-Transfer Advising Appointment
There are two ways to schedule an appointment:

Email MCpretransfer@umd.edu with your M#, full name, and intended major at UMD
Once you've scheduled your appointment:
Check your MC email account for a confirmation message with details about how to connect with the Program Manager at your scheduled appointment time.
Set a calendar reminder so you don't miss the appointment!
Complete the UMD Pre-Transfer Advising intake form as soon as possible.
Review the prospective transfer students webpage.

Profile of a Competitive Transfer Applicant
In order to be a competitive candidate for transfer to College Park, students are encouraged to do the following before applying for admission by an early action transfer deadline:
Complete at least 30 college credits after graduating from high school with final grades posted on the student's transcript. If a student has between 12 and 29 credits, they can still apply but will need to submit their high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores (currently optional), and college transcripts. If a student has 30 or more credits, they only need to submit their college transcripts.
Earn at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA). This GPA should be cumulative and includes all attempted college coursework for all institutions ever attended.
Complete a Fundamental Studies-Academic Writing (FSAW) and Math (FSMA) course. ENGL102 or 103 from MC will satisfy the FSAW requirement.

Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP)
The Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP) provides a pathway for MC students to earn a bachelor's degree at UMD.
Students who participate in MTAP may take discounted courses at UMD in the summer/winter and are guaranteed admission to the university upon successful completion of the program and submission of a transfer application by an early action application deadline.

Limited Enrollment Programs (LEPs)
Limited Enrollment Programs (LEPs) at UMD are majors that have specific gateway course and GPA requirements for admission.
See suggested MC courses for some popular LEP and non-LEP majors in the Google Slides. Please keep in mind, the information is unofficial. Ultimately, the department for your major at UMD will do an official evaluation of your transfer credits and make any decisions about potential requirement exemptions or course substitutions.
Navigating the Transfer Course Database
UMD has a Transfer Course Database where you can look up courses taken at MC (and other colleges and universities) to determine if/how your credits may be accepted. You can view this video for instructions on how to use the database or you can follow this step by step guide.
Do you have Advanced Placement (AP) scores or other credits for prior learning? Be sure to review UMD's charts as the credit awarded may differ from MC.
Application Information for Dual Enrollment Students
Are you taking classes at MC while still in high school?
High school students who would like to be considered for UMD admission immediately after graduating from high school must apply using the freshman application process and submit their application by the freshman application deadline no matter how many college credits they have earned while attending high school. Students who expect to finish the associate's degree before or at the same time as the high school diploma must follow the freshman application process and deadlines.
A student can only be eligible to apply as a transfer applicant by earning at least 12 college credits after high school graduation or completion of the GED.
